London Photo Show 2024
Hoxton Arches, Cremer Street, London E2 8HD
November 14th-17th 2024 11am to 6pm
This year at the London Photo Show, I will be exhibiting a series of hand finished images from the Listen project. Words about this project are here
The images are all Giclee prints on 100% cotton Rag paper, hand finished with 23ct Gold leaf, Copper leaf and sealed with Cold wax to protect the metals and add depth to the images.
They are each a Limited Variable Edition of 5 which means that each image in the edition is slightly different to the others due to the nature of hand finishing.
Images are in white frames, sizes a shown below.
Details of individual images are below – if you are interesed in buying any of these please get in touch by phone (07984 627135), or email hello@janbeesley.art

Listen
This project is inspired by the “Sound Mirrors” – huge concrete structures on a small island in a former gravel quarry near Dungeness. They were built in the late 1920’s as acoustic devices to listen for approaching enemy aircraft. However, by the mid 1930’s aircraft speeds had increased and then radar technology came along, rendering these devices obsolete Today they sit in splendid isolation in the bleak landscape – crumbling monuments to human ingenuity.
I was drawn by the sheer strangeness of this place and the idea of the mirrors still mutely listening but with no-one listening to them. It feels as if all those lost voices have somehow become part of their fabric.
I chose to hand finish the images with gold and copper leaf as these are the metals used in electronics and sound transmission.
Now as you stand among the mirrors you hear the lapping of the water and the cries of seabirds as the gravel shifts beneath your feet, and maybe, just maybe, the echoes of lost voices whispering in the rushes.
There is a stillness here,
You can hear your heart,
If you only listen.
